T : Average running time per train between stations (mm.)
C : Block handling time (mm.)
Automatic block system: 1.5 min.
Non-automatic block system: 2.5 min.
f : Track utilization rate: 0.6
As a reference, track capacities calculated based on the relationship between the type of block
system and the average running time between stations are shown in Table 2.
Table 2 Track capacity (number of inbound and outbound trains)
Automatic block sections allow the plural number of trains between stations to be set by installing block signals, and provide a track capacity approximately 10% greater than that for non-automatic block sections.
The track capacity for double-track sections is calculated from the operated train type and the combination of the kind of trains, running time between relief stations, difference in running times between high-speed and low speed trains, headway for the section in question, and other factors. The track capacity also varies widely with the mission of the line.
